Cybersquatter Gets Tracked Down By Golfers Dad

Casie Cathrea became the youngest Monday qualifier for an LPGA event at Blackhawk Country Club. A high school freshman who made a hole-in-one on the 155-yard 12th hole during the opening round of a LPGA Challenge found herself vitim of cyber squatter Meng Lee. Her official website is Cathrea.com.

Her father, Harry Cathrea tracked down Leonard Meng Lee who registered CasieCathrea.com and threatened to sue Lee under the Federal Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.

In fact he resided close by the Cathrea family home and Harry went to his door to talk to him.

“It cost him two bucks and he wanted to charge me a thousand dollars”

And he was also nice enough to say he accepts Paypal.” Harry said

Meng Lee who has registered more than 1,300 domain names of famous people, including Eldrickwoods.com. was forced to hand this domain over free of charge.

In a statement to ABC7 Lee said “As far as I know, the name is not trademarked and I was legally in the right to register the domain”.

Large sales were reported such as Cricket.com for $1.7 million, DropShippers.com for $1.5 million and Insure.com sold for $16 million. These are not included in the top 10 as they are fully fledged businesses and the buyer was not just getting the domain.

AOL Set To Acquire Mashable?

mashable_logoMashable a blog run by Pete Cashmore which has taken over TechCrunch as the largest tech blog online, may be set for a take over by AOL.

Mashable is favoured by Twitter users and their posts are trending on a daily basis on the popular social website. The deal still a speculation at the moment and no mention of an acquisition amount. Pete has declined to comment on the rumours but insiders information from Aolers suggests that the deal is ongoing.

From Gawker: Taken from penn olsen

“Mashable’s proven ability to generate great numbers and game Google and Twitter is part of the appeal, then, our AOL insider tells us. The site excels not only at writing Google-friendly content but also at earning a flood of links on social networks, most notably Twitter.”

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Is it worth it for mashable to sell. AOL acquired bebo.com and that has dropped almost 200 alexa ranks since AOL took over from #99 down to almost #300 visited site. Should mashable stick to what they are doing and dominate the web?
