So the new year is approaching fast. 2010 is nearly here and it’s time we start getting back to basics and reminding ourselves of the simple things that can help us success in 2010.
You don’t have to have been online long to have learned most of these tips below but this is just a reminder of them and the proper ways in which to execute them correctly.
A lot of people try doing the impossible myself included. We try things to out smart others and to try and gain the upper step over our competitors.
In the end sometimes the best thing to do is to just keep to the simple steps and get the basics done correctly. A lot of people forget to do these and end up losing out on search traffic and rankings that they should have got.

1. Submit your blog or website to all directories (free and if so pay) that relate to your niche and make sure that you put it in the categories most related to your website.

2. Submit your blog and website to all search engines that accept submissions. This will allow you to get indexed fast and gain organic traffic. Here is a site I found that will submit your link to over 20 of the top major search engines.

3. Submit your site to free website review sites like coolsiteoftheday. These site will honestly review your websites and link back to your site. I ran a few of these sites before and they work really well, and all my visitors expressed how grateful that they were about the honest review and the amount of traffic they were receiving from my website.

4. Submit each and every post to social bookmarking sites, like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, stumble etc, using onlywire. This will help to generate not only traffic but backlinks also. Even if you only get a few visits from Twitter or another social network it’s better than nothing, and who knows your post may just go viral. Not to mention the back links from these sites are great and help to index your post at speed.

5. Submit your articles to article directories like article base and associated content. This will help get backlinks, traffic and if the article is unique it will be ranked high in search engines with a link to your website.

6. Some people say that writing articles related to a particular topic on WikiPedia with your blog url in the article can increase traffic a lot and can be very beneficial for your website. To be honest I have not tried this one yet but if you have please let me know how it went.

7. You can try make a hubpage for your blog or website, with a little bit of information about your site.

8. Make a wiki page for your site.

9. Create a squidoo lens and within this lens insert a link to your website. I remember a lot of people, myself included generated a lot of traffic via this technique but I feel that Squidoo is a little over used now and saturated but it is still worth a try.

10. Sign up at 43things.com and write things related to your site. I just wrote “in 2010 I want lolble.com to break the Allexa 100,000 list”

11. Create a myspace page for your website. Add your new posts to the update stream on the home page of all your fans.

12. Create a facebook page for your site. This is possibly one of the best free promotional tools around now a days. With over 360 million registered users and growing daily and by the minute by a rapid amount there is no better way to get free exposure to your website. I created a group there not for my blog but for a random fan page and it went viral through users home pages gathering over 100,000 fans. If just 1% of these click my link that’s 1000 unique targeted visitors!! Think about it.

13. Create a hi5 page for your blog.

15. Use MyBlogLog to create a community around your blog. join other peoples community, so they do the same for you.

17. Upload related how-to videos to youtube, metecafe and other video related websites, with your site url added to the video.

18. Use yahoo answers to answer questions related to your niche, leaving your link in the resource box.

19. Create an account at stumbleupon, and stumble all the posts and content that you add to your website.

20. Join up to as many forums that you can related to your website niche and add your URL to your signature. Make as many posts as you can and build your backlinks. Some people sell their signature real cheap also so this may be of some interest to you.

21. Place a “digg it” “retweet” and “”facebook” buttons to all your posts so that your readers and visitors can easily share your content with others.

22. Use Disqus to run the commenting system on your website. Not only is it do-follow meaning users will get a backlink for commenting on your website, but it will automatically notify you of an updated comment on the post and any replies to your comment. This will bring a lot of users back to your website.

Use social bookmarking plug-ins to make it easy for your readers and visitors to submit your post to social bookmarking sites like twitter, stumble, digg , facebook etc. These are easily found if you are using wordpress and if you have a website you can find the html code found on the websites you want to use.

24. Install “tell-a-friend” plug-in to make it easy for your readers to let others know about your post. This works great and builds a lot of traffic and users.
